Sanka R. Massey, of Carmel, NY died peacefully with her family by her side on Monday February 10, 2020, at Westchester Medical Center. She was 72 years old.
Born on May 23, 1947, in Zablace, Croatia daughter of the late Frane and Anka (Antolos) Rossini. On July 15, 1972, she and her two daughters; Marica and Natasha immigrated to America.
On July 18, 1999, she married Raymond V. Massey in Kent, NY. Together they resided in Brewster, NY until three years ago when they moved to Carmel.
Sanka was a Data Processor with Time Warner Communications in Queens, NY for 9 years before retiring in 2008. Prior to that, she worked in the hospitality industry for nearly two decades. She enjoyed traveling with her family, knitting and going to her Zumba class every Monday. Sanka was a great dancer and singer. Her greatest passion in life was her family, she was a fantastic mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Everyone who met Sanka was automatically attracted to her and her personality. Sanka was a proud survivor of breast cancer for the last 24 years participating in 19 Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure events.
Sanka is survived by her husband of 20 years Ray, her two daughters: Marica Pendjer and her husband John Miller of Orange, CA, Natasha Restrepo and her husband Jorge of North Salem, NY, her granddaughters Bianka and Tatiana Restrepo, as well as nieces, nephews, godchildren and countless cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday February 17, 2020, at St. James the Apostle Church, Gleneida Avenue, Carmel at 11am. Interment followed at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY. Visitation was held on Sunday February 16, 2020 at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY from 2pm-6pm.
