Shirley Mae Smith Giglio

October 8, 1931 - September 26, 2021

Shirley Mae Smith Giglio, of Brewster, entered into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on September 26, 2021.

Shirley was born in Richmond, Virginia, on October 8, 1931. She grew up in Maryland and graduated high school in Bethesda, Maryland. In December 1951, she married the love of her life, Armand Giglio. They were married for 69 years.

Shirley was loved by many and will truly be missed. Her lovely demeanor, compassion and care for others are gifts she shared with all who knew her. Shirley was an avid gardener and a very active member of the Brewster-Carmel Garden Club. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, driving patients to their treatments. Shirley was also a Girl Scout leader for many years as her daughters grew up. She loved and was dedicated to her church community of St. Lawrence O’Toole, Brewster, New York.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Armand, and granddaughter, Elena Ariano; brothers: Winchester, Everett, and Rowland Smith; and her parents, Winchester and Ora Smith.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ariano, her husband, John, their son Jonathan Ariano, his wife, Meredith, and their son Martin. Her son, Armand Michael Giglio, his wife, Carol, and their family: daughter, Melissa Bowers, her husband, Daniel; son, Christopher, his wife, Madeline, their son Michael; son Douglas Giglio, his wife, Kristie, and their daughter, Ava and son, Christopher. Her daughter, Carla Haugan and her husband Mark. Her daughter, Nina DiNardo, her husband, Paul and their family: daughter, Pamela Badoud and her son Digger; son, Anthony, his wife Meghan, and their son, Grayson; daughter, Annemarie Blanchette, her husband, James, and son, Jameson and daughter, Penelope.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Utterback, her dearest cousin Patsy Kinder and loving sister-in-law Harriett McKelvey Smith.

She is also survived by her nephew, Stephen Digilio, and his son Patrick, and her niece, Victoria Digilio.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Friends called at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Thursday (Sept. 30) from 5 to 7pm.
